The PRIO Research School on Peace and Conflict hosted researchers from Masaryk University and the University of Helsinki for an academic skills course on “Integrating quantitative data into qualitative research” on September 9-11, 2026.
The course was led by Nicholas Marsh and featured several sessions by PRIO researchers which included a range of datasets, methods, and academic skills. There was a session on the V-Dem dataset by Acting Director Haakon Gjerløw and a session on the Conflict Trends dataset by Research Director Siri Aas Rustad. Senior Researcher Andreas Forø Tollefsen focused on the use of spatial data, while Research Professor Marta Bivand Erdal led a session on survey data. In addition, Research Professor Bruno Oliveira Martins hosted a session on how to publish in a good journal, and Special Advisor Lynn P. Nygaard focused on how to integrate data visuals into qualitative text.
The course was made possible due to the Horizon Europe funding for the CENTREPEACE project which led by Masaryk University and involves PRIO and the University of Helsinki as partners. The course reinforced CENTREPEACE’s commitment to building a lasting culture of research excellence in European peace and security.
